The town of Scarborough is a family oriented community of almost 20,000 residents and is one of the fastest growing communities in the State of Maine, a premier community for families and businesses and a destination for outdoors enthusiasts. Scarborough is a coastal resort area and isn't far from Portland, South Portland, or Westbrook.

Demographics, Population, and Income

Scarborough consists of a population of about 20,000 people. In 2000, the US census provided that the median household income in Scarborough was just over $56,000 and the average age is 39 years old.

Schools

Located on the scenic coast of southern Maine, six miles southwest of Portland, Scarborough Schools provide services to students from kindergarten to adult education practicing its philosophy of offering quality education for all eligible members of the community. Students learn in a positive atmosphere where dedicated educators strive to meet individual student needs throughout the school year and beyond.

Learning begins for students in kindergarten through second grade at one of three primary schools; Blue Point, Pleasant Hill, and Eight Corners. Wentworth Intermediate School fosters understanding for children in grades 3 through 5, preparing them for the academic and social programs that await them at Scarborough Middle School (grades 6-8). Scarborough High School offers courses and activities to students in grades 9-12, with one of the largest academic, athletic, and co-curricular programs in Maine. Area Entertainment, Beaches, Recreation in Scarborough

Ferry Beach and Western Beach are neighboring beaches which together make up about 5,000 feet of beachfront land. Pine Point Beach is also located in Scarborough and can be seen from across the bay from Ferry Beach.

Scarborough also has many parks and recreation areas. Some of these include Memorial park, Scarborough River Wildlife Sanctuary, Springbrook Park, Jennie and Issac E. Shopping and Restaurants in Scarborough Maine

In addition to Scarborough's close proximity to Portland, there is a variety of venues for entertainment in Scarborough. Play in the arcade; go to the café and go-karting all at Maine Indoor Karting. See a Play at Good Theater or enjoy a game of golf at one of four golf courses in Scarborough.
